Daily Life in Bohol
Choosing to live in Bohol is not a a decision to be taken lightly. Behind those glossy tourist brochures and fancy resort hotels, at its heart the Philippines is a poor country (financially). Public services and infrastructure often leave a lot to be desired.
This is not to say that Bohol does not offer a great place to live, I have been here for just over a year and love the place. Bohol offers me a much quieter / laid-back lifestyle than I had in the 6 years spent living in Cebu.
If you hanker after life in a large bustling City then Tagbilaran (Bohol's Capital) really doesn’t fit the bill. It has plenty of coffee shops, fast food joints, restaurants and a few decent shopping malls.
If you're searching for a buzzing night life scene, you will find Tagbilaran very tame compared to Cebu City. Club Atmosphere, Metro Center and Laser Disco, Bohol Tropics are quite enjoyable.
There are a few places in town offering good food and entertainment, checkout Lohob Grill, DOYs Restaurant & KTV or Time Out KTV Lounge. A live band plays at La Vista, level 5 BQ Mall at the weekend.
Panglao Island offers plenty of beach side bars that come alive at night, but is also the place of choice for tourists so prices may end up a little higher.
Living in Bohol or the Philippines in general takes some getting used to. Once you realize that you can't change the system, however crazy it may seem, you begin to go with the flow.
I complain to friends about this and that but always remember I am here by choice. If I don't like things, I can choose to live elsewhere. Visit Bohol for a holiday before packing your bags and retiring here. It could be money well spent.
There are a lot of Expats in and around Tagbilaran, so you should not find it hard to keep in touch with fellow countrymen and complain (sorry chat
) to each other, about all the things you don't like with the place you have chosen to live.
The articles on this web site give an idea as to what you might find when you're in Bohol. Other web sites and forums detail living costs, property rentals etc. I do not need to repeat what has already been written.

The People in Bohol are a pretty friendly bunch, religion is predominantly Catholic. Main highways are of a reasonable standard, many interior roads can be a little rough. You can find everything you need to know with a Google Search. Hope you enjoy your visit. Alan Jay
I am wondering what the people in the community are like. Religion, business, Roads, Utilities, Laws and ordinance.
