National Museum, Bohol Branch, is an often overlooked Tourist Attraction. It offers an interesting insight into Bohol’s post and Pre-Spanish history.

The Museum is well worth visiting. Among the exhibits are Boholano Art, Botanical, Zoological and Archeological materials and artifacts that have been unearthed from different parts of the island.

There is currently an art exhibition displaying the works of Bohol’s famous and contemporary artists. Highlighting their expressions of Boholanos’ bravery and heroism.

The museum building was originally a school, built in 1856. It was one of two schools (boys and girls), situated on each side of the Provincial Capitol Building.. Tagbilaran PNB (Philippine National Bank) is the site of the other school building.

As well as being a school, in 1900 it was taken over by the invading US army and subsequently used as a military barracks. It reverted back to a school in 1904. (in the image gallery below you can see how the old Provincial Capitol Building and Plaza Rizal looked in the early 1900's)

The Museum used to be housed in the home of the former President Carlos P. Garcia, but was relocated to its current location and formally opened on July 22, 2007.

Please visit the National Museum, Bohol Branch, as said its often overlooked and like many public facilities, under funded. There is a plan to install air-conditioning in the building, making a visit even more pleasing on a hot summers day.

Why not combine a visit to the museum with a walk around Plaza Rizal (opposite museum) and Tagbilaran Cathederal.
