Tourist Spots in Bohol

The Bamboo Hanging Bridge crossing the Sipatan River in the Municipality of Sevilla, Bohol, is a fun tourist spot to visit. Originally constructed using just bamboo and rope. Today the rope has made way to steel cables, giving added safety and stability.
The deck of the bridge is still formed out of woven bamboo slats. In places some of these appear broken but its still sturdy enough to take the weight of tourists and locals alike. Just watch where you put your feet.
Walking onto the bridge is a little daunting at first as the bamboo deck flexes a little under your feet. Although the support cables are now made of steel, you still experience some side to side sway and up and down bounce.
The bridge spans around 40 meters and offers a great view of the emerald Sipatan river below. I have seen reference on other web sites that you can jump of the bridge into the cool waters below. I didn’t see this happening on my visit. Seems a little dangerous but each to his own.
On the far side of the bridge you will find a small shop, selling souvenirs and a welcome cold drink and snacks. Additionally you will find “The Buko King”. He can strip a coconut (buko) in something like 10 seconds using just his teeth.
I did not witness this amazing claim, but did find the cost of a fresh buko rather high. I know its all in the name of supporting the local economy etc, but there is a fine line between that and exploiting tourists. (another web site says the Buko was 20 pesos. I paid at least 50. Perhaps my fair skin inflated the price yet again)
This Tourist Spot is often overlooked as it falls a little way off the normal day tour route. If you’re taking a package tour, ask the drive if its possible to visit the Hanging Bridge at Sevilla. Or book a tour that includes this already.
A ten pesos toll is charged to cross the bridge, the funds raised are put back in to the maintenance. There are in fact two Bridges now and you cross on one and back on the other.
I have to be honest and say that it Is Not the most spectacular attraction in Bohol and certainly wont keep you occupied for more than 20 mins or so. That said it is a great place to stop off as part of a tour package.
